This year we celebrated Father’s Day on Friday because I was going to be travelling home to celebrate Dad’s 70th birthday so I would not be around on Sunday. So when I got home on Friday, the kids and Melissa had me sit down on the couch and then they came down with their gifts.
Abby made a picture out of clay playdough of me and her playing together. Aiden made me a key hanger in the shape of a dolphin, which would have come in more handy a couple of weeks earlier when Melissa lost her car keys!!!
They also got me a heart rate monitor for working out and an appointment to get an assessment at the gym. The last present they got me was the best of all. Melissa bought a book that records the kids answering questions about me that are in the book. It was kind of like play on kids say the darndest things show that Bill Cosby used to host. It was very thoughtful and touching gift, which I have listened to a couple times since getting it. I think Aiden has listened to it over 10 times since I got it.
After that, Melissa & I had a steak dinner and watched a couple episodes of The Borgias before heading to bed.

Now on Father’s Day, we woke up at the Allison’s house where Peter was enjoying Macklan on his first Father’s Day. We spent most of the morning cleaning up from the 70th birthday party the night before. After we finished cleaning up, we dropped Rob off at Mom & Dad’s and headed out to Lakefield to visit see Bruce for Father’s Day. The kids visited with Grandpa and Grandma while I took a small nap on the chair in the living room. While we were there, Grandpa showed Abby & Aiden the basement cellar which they had never seen before. Come to think of it, I have never seen it before!!!! The kids thought that was quite neat and asked me a bunch questions about it on the way back to Mississauga.
After our visit, we went and picked up Rob at Mom & Dad’s and headed back home. When we dropped Uncle Rob off at the subway, Abby offered Rob some unsolicited yet sage dating advice that went something like this: “Uncle Rob, when you get a girlfriend, you need to ask her to marry you and then you will have a wife” To which Rob responded with complete sincerity “Ahh, that is the step that I have been forgetting, thanks Abby.” It was quite the little send off for Rob.
By the time we got home, the kids were completely zonked and went to bed without much hassle. However, they were not to happy at the 7am wake-up call the next morning for school.
