Tough Mudder

On May 11th I with 9 other friends competed in the Tough Mudder competition in Barrie. I went up to Barrie in Friday night so that it would not be such an early morning to drive up from my house. On Friday night, we all watched the Leafs win Game 5 of the series against a Boston (series ended horribly in Game 7 three nights later). I probably slept no more than 2 hrs if that because of nerves and also, the bed was no that comfortable.

On Saturday morning, I felt nauseas all morning, but I managed to force down some food knowing that I would need the energy later. When I got to shuttle parking lot I took some gravol to help me with the nausea. It almost felt like the butterflies I get before performing in front of a lot of people.

When we got to the competition, we got our numbers and got to the starting gate which we had to climb over an 8ft wall just to get there. Now, I will tell you that when we started the race it was a balmy 3 degrees celsius and when we finished it was about 8 or 9 degree celsius. Now while I will not tell you all details of the race, I will tell you that the Arctic Enema was quite cole and made the fact that I only had about 2 hrs sleep unnecessary. The other I wanted to write about was the Electric Eel, which is when you crawl through the water on your stomach while getting shocked by electric cords. At the beginning of the obstacle I took about 4 or 5 within about a second and it stopped me dead and gave me time to scream out just a little. Then I hear a teammate tell me to speed up and not stop, so I did. By the end on the obstacle I had been shocked about a dozen times, but I finished it. If you read below, it will tell you about what other obstacles I ran through in the race. Lastly, the only obstacle that I did not complete was the Berlin Walls. It was just too difficult to pull myself up and over these walls.

Course Map

The most important part was that after about 16 1/2 Km and going up and down the ski hill 6 or 7 times, all of team finished the race after about 5 1/2 hrs on the course.  It felt absolutely amazing finishing the race.

After the race I had a celebratory beer and then hooked up with Rob and went home for supper at my house.
